About me

‘Every space tells a story’
-Marouscha Levy

Marouscha Levy is the founder of Mush Design, a design bureau that is devoted to spatial design. These spaces can vary from opera décors and museum exhibitions to other art-related spaces. What sets her work apart is the way in which she explores the relationship between the (dramatic) content of the space and its design, rediscovering this relationship afresh in every project. One of the major characteristics of her designs are how they reveal themselves as wordless dialogues between architectural images and intimate images, and between the physical space and the very materials from which it is built. Marouscha Levy distinguishes herself in her work through her meticulous but flexible approach, never losing sight of the central question: ‘Is this space telling the story that we want to tell?’ In recent years, the designs of Marouscha Levy have exhibited both daring and diversity, never afraid to take on political subjects and grand gestures where necessary.

Marouscha Levy graduated from both the Amsterdam School of the Arts and Maastricht Academy of Fine Arts and Design.  In 2009, she received an incentive grant from the Netherlands Foundation for Visual Arts, Design and Architecture (Het Mondriaan Fonds). Her design bureau Mush is based in Amsterdam, but available for assignments worldwide.

Marouscha Levy has a long-standing working partnership with the opera director Lotte de Beer and Nina Gühlstorff. In addition, she has worked on a diverse range of international projects in recent years.
